Nick Normando: Keeping the Blues Alive

Nick Normando, a passionate and talented Blues guitarist from Lisle, Illinois, has dedicated his life to preserving and sharing the rich heritage of Blues music. Born into a home filled with the soulful sounds of Blues, classic rock, and R&B spinning on his father’s record player, Nick’s earliest memories are steeped in the music of legends like Robert Johnson, Son House, and Elmore James. These early influences not only shaped his love for the genre but also ignited a spark that continues to burn bright today.

A Musical Beginning

Nick picked up a guitar for the first time at the age of nine, guided by his father, who taught him his first chords. While these initial lessons laid the foundation, Nick’s musical journey truly took off as a self-taught guitarist. Immersing himself in the work of Blues pioneers like Mississippi Fred McDowell and Bukka White, he began to develop a style that reflects a deep reverence for tradition while infusing his own raw energy and authenticity.

For Nick, the allure of the Blues wasn’t just about the music—it was about the emotional depth it offered. “The emotional reaction I got from Blues just pulled me in. You don’t choose the Blues; the Blues chooses you,” he says. This profound connection has guided his path, transforming him into an artist who not only plays the Blues but lives it.

A Career Rooted in Passion

Over the years, Nick has established himself as a dynamic performer, earning accolades for his soul-stirring guitar work and powerful stage presence. He released two albums with the Southern rock-infused group, The Righteous Hillbillies, showcasing his ability to blend traditional Blues with contemporary elements.

His career highlights are a testament to his dedication to the craft. Nick has performed at iconic venues such as Buddy Guy’s Legends, where he shared the stage with Brother Jacob and Fernando Jones. He also brought his talent to Kingston Mines, performing alongside Vance Kelly, and has frequently collaborated with the Mike Wheeler Band.

One of Nick’s most notable experiences was playing guitar on Keshia Dixon’s album, connecting him to the legacy of her grandfather, the Blues giant Willie Dixon. These collaborations not only solidify his place within the Blues community but also underscore his commitment to honoring the genre’s rich history.
